Stencil Collage

What you'll need:

  • magazines (I used Elle Decor, Interior Design and clothes catalogs that I had lying around)
  • thick poster board (what ever size you want)
  • scissors
  • Mod Podge
  • foam brushes
  • stencil (you can order specific stencils online, or if you are cheap like me print out an enlarged image from google and cut it out yourself)
  • acrylic paint  in any color (i used white so the images underneath would pop out more)
1. Cut out words and images you like. I liked to cut out the designs and patterns on clothing and fabric. I also tried to avoid white images because it would blend into color of the paint.

2. Layer the images you cut out all over the board using Mod Podge. Make sure there aren't edges sticking up.

3. Once the Mod Podge is dry, lay the stencil over the collage and draw around it. I taped down some of the  stencil edges so it wouldn't move as I traced it.

4. Next, paint around the outline of stencil. I chose to do only one light coat of paint because I liked the transparency. And I faded the paint out around the edges of the collage so it would show. It can also look nice if you choose layer on more paint and distress it like in this tutorial: http://tatertotsandjello.com/2011/07/summer-social-guest-project-make-mod.html

Once it dries you have your own creative artwork.
